Almonds and Migraines

When I was pregnant, I did my best to stay away from pharmaceutical drugs. Today, doctors say Tylenol is okay to take while pregnant, but in twenty years I am sure we will find out it causes an array of issues in unborn children. I had horrible migraines during my first pregnancy. I would put a wet washcloth on my head and make sure whatever room I was in was pitch black. It was miserable. With my second pregnancy, the migraines came back with a vengeance and I was desperate to find a natural remedy to help curb them before I lost my mind. The first thing I tried was organic, raw almonds and they were my godsend.

Almonds are high in salicin, vitamin B2, vitamin E, and magnesium. Salicin is an anti-inflammatory, which has a close chemical makeup to that of aspirin. Vitamin B2 has the ability to prevent headaches and migraines. Vitamin E has been seen to curb pain and nausea, as well as help with sensitivity to lights and sounds. Also, people who are low in magnesium tend to get more migraines and the high amount of magnesium in almonds can help prevent them. The results may vary from person to person, but if you suffer from migraines and want a natural remedy, it certainly can’t hurt.
